Circle
Hiking & outdoors: find adventure friends in Riyadh
From October to April, the desert around Riyadh comes alive. This circle is for people who want company on the Tuwaiq escarpment, in the dunes and on winter camping trips.
Where people do this in Riyadh
- Viewpoints on the Tuwaiq escarpment, such as the one known as the Edge of the World, northwest of the city.
- The red sand dunes and parks east and north of the city, popular for winter camping.
- Wadi Hanifah and the Sports Boulevard for cycling closer to home.
How to find your people
- Start with shorter, well-known trails and build up.
- Plan together: check the weather, share the route and agree a turn-back time.
- Car-share only once you know each other well; until then, travel on your own.
First plans for two
- A sunset trip to the escarpment with a guide
- A winter desert camp with a small group
- An evening bike ride along Wadi Hanifah
Good to know
Go with an experienced organiser or guide, travel in more than one car, check access and road conditions, carry plenty of water, and tell someone where you’re going.
How the Hiking & outdoors circle works
Members of this circle start plans that anyone in the circle can join, like a game, a walk or a coffee, and answer one quick question a week. Plans are always in public places and arranged by members. Friendship only, for grown-ups 18 and over.
