Circle
Hiking & outdoors: find adventure friends in Cairo
From October to March, the desert around Cairo is at its best. This circle is for people who want company on valley hikes, desert days and trips out of the city.
Where people do this in Cairo
- Wadi Degla protectorate on the edge of Maadi, for hiking and cycling in a desert valley.
- Fayoum, a popular day trip from Cairo, with its lake, waterfalls and desert landscapes.
- The Giza Plateau and the Grand Egyptian Museum, for a day that mixes walking and history.
How to find your people
- Start with shorter, well-known trails and build up.
- Plan together: check the weather, share the route and agree a turn-back time.
- Car-share only once you know each other well; until then, travel on your own.
First plans for two
- A morning hike in Wadi Degla
- A day trip to Fayoum with a small group
- A walk around the Giza Plateau, then the Grand Egyptian Museum
Good to know
Go with an experienced organiser or guide, travel in more than one car, check access and entry rules, carry plenty of water, and tell someone where you’re going.
How the Hiking & outdoors circle works
Members of this circle start plans that anyone in the circle can join, like a game, a walk or a coffee, and answer one quick question a week. Plans are always in public places and arranged by members. Friendship only, for grown-ups 18 and over.
