New in Cairo? Meet other newcomers
Cairo is one of the biggest cities in the Arab world, and people arrive every month for work or study from across Egypt and abroad. This circle is for people in their first year or two who want to explore the city with others who are also starting fresh.
Where people do this in Cairo
- Easy, lively places to meet, such as Zamalek, Downtown and the Nile Corniche.
- Al-Azhar Park, with wide lawns and views over historic Cairo, for a relaxed first walk.
- El Moez Street and Khan el-Khalili in historic Cairo, for old-city atmosphere and a first stroll together.
How to find your people
- Say that you’re new. Most people remember that feeling and respond warmly.
- Pick one weekly habit, such as a class, a walk or a volunteering shift, so you see the same faces.
- Keep first plans short and close to the Metro so they’re easy to say yes to.
First plans for two
- An evening walk in Al-Azhar Park
- A stroll along El Moez Street and tea afterwards
- A visit to the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir with a small group
Good to know
The cooler season, roughly October to March, is the outdoor season in Cairo: evenings on the Nile, walks in the parks and day trips out of the city are at their best. Check official channels for event dates and tickets.
How the New in Cairo circle works
Members of this circle start plans that anyone in the circle can join, like a game, a walk or a coffee, and answer one quick question a week. Plans are always in public places and arranged by members. Friendship only, for grown-ups 18 and over.
